Start here · What rank change alerting means offline

This UI is a spreadsheet diff—not an email integration. Paste before and after exports with headers keyword, position.

Positive delta means the numeric position improved (lower rank number). Thresholds mark up (+3 or more spots), huge-up (+10 or more), down, huge-down, lost (missing after), and new (missing before).

Summary tiles count winners and losers. The combined list sorts by absolute delta so the largest swings appear first for standup reviews.

When to use this tool

  • Weekly ranking exports

Drop two rank-tracker CSVs side by side after an algorithm update.

  • Before/after content launches

Prove whether refreshed briefs improved target head terms.

  • Locale comparison

Compare separate exports per country folder when hreflang rolled out.

  • Client reporting

Screenshot winner and loser sections with crisp delta badges.

Examples

Walk through these with the form above — they are practice scenarios, not live data.

New keyword chip

Try this

Add a row only in the after paste.

What to look for

Badge reads new with — → position to highlight fresh SERP visibility.

Lost term

Try this

Remove a keyword from the after snapshot.

What to look for

Shows lost so you know coverage disappeared entirely.

Short tutorial

Follow in order the first time you use the tool; later you can skip to the step you need.

  1. Step 1 — Export consistent columns

Ensure both files use comma separators and the same keyword spelling.

  2. Step 2 — Paste before snapshot

Typically the older date in the left card.

  3. Step 3 — Paste after snapshot

Use the latest crawl or Search Console position table if positions are exported manually.

  4. Step 4 — Read winner and loser summaries

Tiles quantify how many rows crossed positive or negative thresholds.

  5. Step 5 — Deepen investigation

Send unstable terms to serp volatility tracker and competitor shifts to serp competitor tracker.

Rank Change Alerter does one job: get alerts when tracked keywords swing meaningfully. It lives under SERP & Rankings on SEOToolkits, where the beginner idea is simple: SERP SEO studies the search results page itself: rankings, snippets, features, and what Google is rewarding.

FAQ

Can I use average position from GSC?
Yes if you reshape exports to keyword, position with one row per query.
Tie positions across duplicates?
Later rows overwrite earlier ones with the same keyword string—dedupe upstream.
Fractional positions?
The parser reads floats but ranking tools usually supply integers.
Does it email me?
No automation—copy insights into your alerting workflow manually.
